EN 593 is a general technical standard for butterfly valves formulated by the European Union. It specifies the design criteria, material requirements, manufacturing process, performance testing and dimensional specifications of butterfly valves in industrial applications. It is the core basis for butterfly valve products in the European market to obtain CE certification. This standard applies to metal butterfly valves, covering centerline and double eccentric structure types.

Main structural features
‌ Design specifications ‌

Double eccentric or centerline sealing structure is adopted, and the valve body flange connection dimensions follow EN 1092-2 (flange standard) and ISO 5211 (top drive device interface standard);

The structural length complies with the EN 558-1 series (such as 13 series or 14 series).
‌Material requirements‌

‌Valve body‌: Common materials include ductile iron (such as QT450-10), stainless steel (SS304), etc., and the surface needs to be treated with epoxy spray or paint for corrosion protection; ‌Seal assembly‌: The sealing ring material can be EPDM (temperature resistance -10°C to 120°C) or NBR (temperature resistance -10°C to 82°C); ‌Valve shaft and butterfly plate‌: 20Cr13 stainless steel or ductile iron, some models are welded with stainless steel to enhance corrosion resistance. ‌Performance indicators‌

Nominal pressure range: DN80-DN1200 is 16bar, DN1400-DN2400 is 10bar; ​Sealing performance test must meet EN 12266-1 standard (valve seat leakage level requirements).
