What are the advantages of split ball valves?

The most obvious advantage of split ball valves is ease of maintenance: two or three flanged parts can be separated to provide access to the interior. The valve can be cleaned and serviced without removing it from the piping system, thus extending the life of the valve and saving the plant replacement costs. Split ball valves are often selected for ANSI flanged piping connections, which are required or preferred in certain piping systems.

What are the disadvantages of split ball valves?

While split ball valves offer convenience in terms of maintenance, they are not the right choice for all applications. Split valves tend to be more expensive than standard ball valves. One- or two-piece ball valves may be more suitable for less demanding applications where the valve may last for many years before failing. In addition, split valves are usually only available with ANSI flanged piping connections, so they are not compatible with other connection standards.
