The 3-piece trunnion ball valve is similar to the 2-piece ball valve but has an additional valve body in the middle of the ball, clamped by two neck flanges. This design allows it to be used for high-pressure and large-diameter pipe conditions. The 3-piece trunnion ball valve is particularly suitable for natural gas pipelines with diameters up to 60 inches and pressures up to Class 600. Trunnion ball valves can also handle higher pressures if required. The trunnion design reduces the torque needed to open and close the valve, allowing for the use of smaller actuators.
