Flange end globe valve is a forced-sealing type valve, so when the valve is closed, pressure must be applied to the valve disc to ensure the sealing surface does not leak. When the medium flows from below the valve disc into the valve chamber, the operating force needs to overcome the resistance, which includes the friction of the valve stem and packing, as well as the thrust produced by the medium's pressure. The force required to open the valve is greater than the force to close it, so the stem diameter should be large enough; otherwise, bending failure of the stem could occur.
