SS 304 Butterfly Valve

‌304 stainless steel butterfly valve‌ is a valve with 304 stainless steel (0Cr18Ni9) as the valve body and butterfly plate material. It has corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance (-196℃~425℃) and hygiene, and is suitable for corrosive or clean media control fields such as chemical, food, and medicine. Its core advantages include:

‌Corrosion resistance‌: 304 stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel, and can withstand corrosion from weak acids, weak alkalis, and chlorides (such as chlorinated wastewater and steam).
‌Sanitary standards‌: The surface is polished to Ra≤0.8μm, suitable for food-grade media (such as milk and beverages) to avoid media residue.

Structural type and selection points
‌Connection method‌

‌Wafer type‌: The valve body has no flange and is clamped between the pipe flanges by stud bolts. It is light and space-saving (applicable to DN15~2000mm).
‌Flange type‌: The valve body comes with a flange, suitable for high-pressure scenarios (≤PN10MPa) and frequent disassembly conditions.
‌Drive mode‌

‌Manual‌: Handle or worm gear operation, low cost, suitable for low-frequency opening and closing scenarios (such as DN≤300mm).
‌Pneumatic‌: Integrated AT/AW series actuator, supports 0.4~0.7MPa compressed air drive, opening and closing time ≤2 seconds (such as D671X/F-16P type).
‌Seal design‌

‌Soft seal‌: EPDM or PTFE seal ring, leakage level reaches ISO5208 A level (applicable temperature ≤120℃).
‌Hard seal‌: Triple eccentric metal seal (such as 304+cobalt-based alloy cladding), high temperature resistant to 425℃ and anti-particle erosion.

Advantages and disadvantages of 304 stainless steel butterfly valve

Advantages

Corrosion resistance and long service life: The service life can reach 100,000 times in weak acid (pH ≥ 3) and salt spray environment.

Sanitary compatibility: Meets FDA/GMP standards and is suitable for food and pharmaceutical aseptic environments.

High cost performance: Compared with 316L stainless steel, the cost is reduced by 30%~40% and meets the requirements of most working conditions.

Limitations

Not resistant to strong acid: High-concentration corrosive media such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid need to be upgraded to 316L material.

Low hardness: The surface of the butterfly plate needs to be welded with hard alloy (such as tungsten carbide) to cope with the wear of particle-containing media.
