Centred-disc butterfly valves Description
The center disc butterfly valve is the centerline butterfly valve. Its core feature is that the valve stem axis, the center of the butterfly plate and the center line of the valve body are coaxial. It adopts a symmetrical structural design and is suitable for fluid control scenarios with low pressure, normal temperature and conventional sealing requirements.
Structure and design features
Three-line coaxial layout:
The valve stem axis, the center of the butterfly plate and the center line of the valve body completely overlap, and the structure is symmetrical and simple.
The butterfly plate is a disc (center disc) and the contact surface with the valve seat is a full-circle symmetrical design.
Key components:
Valve seat: Mostly made of elastic materials (such as EPDM or PTFE), relying on elastic deformation to achieve sealing.
Butterfly plate: A centrally symmetrical disc with a flat surface that needs to be fully fitted with the valve seat to ensure sealing.
Drive mechanism: Manual, worm gear or electric operation, it is necessary to cooperate with a worm gear reducer to achieve self-locking positioning of the butterfly plate.
Working principle and performance characteristics
Sealing mechanism:
The butterfly plate is in full contact with the valve seat, and the gap between the sealing surfaces is compensated by the deformation of the elastic valve seat, relying on the medium pressure to assist the seal.
The sealing performance depends on the elasticity of the valve seat material and is not suitable for high pressure or high temperature conditions.
Pros and cons comparison:
Advantages:
Simple structure and low manufacturing cost.
Small opening and closing angle (≤90°), easy operation.
Limitations:
The butterfly plate and the valve seat are in continuous friction, with high wear rate and short life.
Low applicable pressure (usually ≤16 bar) and limited temperature resistance (EPDM≤80℃, PTFE≤150℃).
