Forged steel piston check valves are available in in-line, inclined (Y-type) or conventional (90 degree T-type) body designs. All types of check valves are considered silent check valves, preventing water hammer and backflow. This is achieved through the use of a spring-assisted flapper, which is held in line with the flow of water on a short stroke, resulting in rapid closure of the valve. As the forward velocity begins to slow, the spring assist begins to close the valve flap. When forward velocity reaches zero, the flap closes against the seat before backflow occurs, preventing pressure fluctuations in the line and thus preventing water hammer. Most designs can be mounted in any position, including downward flow, if the proper spring is installed. Piston/check valves are available in sizes from 1/4' to 24' or larger. The body design selected will determine the pressure drop; inline designs will provide optimum flow performance. Piston/promoter check valves are available with a number of different end connections, including threaded, flanged, weldable, and more.
